Secret Service Director gives opening statement
Secret Service Director, Kimberly Cheatle, testified Monday before a congressional committee as calls mount for her to resign over security failures after an attempted assassination on former President Donald Trump. Trump was wounded in the ear after he was struck by 20-year-old gunman Thomas Matthew Crooks. This is the first appearance Cheatle has made since the deadly shooting that left one spectator dead. Lawmakers have shown anger and confusion as to how the gunman was able to get so close to the presidential nominee, who was supposed to be carefully guarded.
