Mexican cartel violence: Senators demand military action in wake of Americans killed, fentanyl poison
GOP Senators Roger Marshall and Rick Scott are reintroducing legislation designating Mexican drug cartels as "terrorist organizations" following the kidnappings and murder of two Americans this week. The Drug Cartel Terrorist Designation Act would designate certain Mexican cartels as "Foreign Terrorist Organizations," giving U.S. law enforcement additional power to fight back against cartel violence. It would also criminalize the act of helping cartel members enter the U.S., and allow the Treasury secretary to freeze assets of cartels and block monetary transactions. Two Americans were found dead in Matamoros, Mexico, Tuesday after an initial group of four was kidnapped over the weekend by gunmen in what authorities say was likely a case of mistaken identity.
