The popular breakfast staple’s origin dates back to 13th century Jewish bakers in a part of Eastern Europe that is now Poland, according to National Geographic.
When European Jews began immigrating to the U.S. in the 19th century, bagels also crossed the pond. Today, these dough-y staples can be found just about everywhere.
