Texas Walkout: Democratic state lawmakers flee to D.C. over voting rights bill

Texas state Democrats spoke to the press on the tarmac at Dulles International Airport outside the nation's capital as they flew in to D.C. for a "working trip" to evade the special legislative session that Gov. Greg Abbott called to debate and vote on the SB 7, a sweeping package of electoral reforms that Democrats contend are voter suppression laws. By not having a quorum to vote on the bill in the legislature in Austin, Democrats have all but knee-capped the special session going forward. Texas state Republicans balked at the move.
