Super Bowl LIX is approaching and fans and analysts have offered their predictions on which team they believe will hoist the Lombardi trophy, but there are always different scenarios for what the final score Sunday might be.

Points in the NFL can come in a variety of ways, with touchdowns, field goals, and the occasional safety.

But there is one unique method that’s gained traction in recent years for building never-before-seen point totals.

What is scorigami?

Scorigami is a concept created by Jon Bois built on the art of creating final scores that have never happened before in NFL history.

According to nflcorigami.com, given the unique way points are scored in American football, where it is impossible to score one point, and scoring a two-point safety or an eight point touchdown, which includes a two-point conversion, are both rare plays in the game, there are a lot of scores that are possible, but have never happened.

The NFL Scorigami website has an archive of every final score that has been achieved in the game’s history, along with the scores that have yet to be reached.

A chart on the site used by scorigami gives the winning team's score which is along the top and the losing team's score is along the right. Scores marked in green have happened, scores in white have not yet happened, and scores in black are impossible, per NFL Scorigami.

How many different NFL final scores have there been?

By the numbers:

There have been 1,085 different final scores for games in NFL history.

Approximately 73 games have ended with a 0-0 score in NFL history. But that didn’t happen until the New York Giants and Detroit Lions did so in 1943. Additionally, five games in NFL history ended with a score of 2-0. But this has not happened post-merger, with the last game coming in 1938 between the Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers, according to the Pro Football Network

The lowest NFL score in the league’s post-merger history is 3-0. In the Super Bowl era, it has happened six times. The first one came in 1971 when the Minnesota Vikings beat the Packers with a fourth-quarter field goal.

When is the last time a scorigami happened in the NFL?

Scorigami’s have happened in the past two NFL regular seasons. The 2024 NFL regular season saw the first scorigami in Week 1 when the San Francisco 49ers beat the New York Jets 32-19.

Meanwhile, nine games in the 2023 NFL regular season ended in final scores that were never recorded in league history:

  • Baltimore Ravens beat the Texans 25-9 in Week 1
  • Miami Dolphins defeated the Denver Broncos 70-20 in Week 3.
  • Philadelphia Eagles beat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 25-11 in Week 3.
  • Dallas Cowboys defeated the Los Angeles Rams 43-20 in Week 8.
  • Houston Texans beat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 39-37 in Week 9.
  • Denver Broncos beat the Cleveland Browns 29-12 in Week 12.
  • Miami Dolphins defeated the Washington Commanders 45-15 in Week 13.
  • Las Vegas Raiders beat the Los Angeles Chargers 63-21 in Week 15.
  • Baltimore Ravens defeated the Miami Dolphins 56-19 in Week 17.
