Yelp's 20 most popular - and photographed - places in America

Yelp is celebrating 20 years of online reviews with a spotlight on its most beloved places. 

To celebrate their 20th birthday in October, Yelp has released two new lists: the 20 most photographed and the 20 most popular attractions and businesses of all time. 

Since 2004, Yelp has amassed more than 287 million online reviews. The first review ever was posted in October 2004 was by Jon B. for Kabuki Springs & Spa in San Francisco, the company says.

The most prolific "Yelper," Bruce K, has posted nearly 23,000 reviews and 61,000 photos since 2009.

"A lot has changed," the company said in a news release. "We've swapped flip phones for smartphones, Mean Girls is now a musical, and we’ve devoured era-defining food trends, from cronuts, to caviar bumps."

Yelp’s 20 most photographed businesses 

Yelp’s most photographed business of all time is Disneyland in Anaheim, California, with more than 49,000 user-submitted photos.

Bacchanal Buffet and Gordon Ramsay’s Hell’s Kitchen, two Las Vegas restaurants, ranked No. 2 and No. 3 on Yelp’s list, respectively. 

Yelp’s 20 most popular businesses

The most popular American attraction of all time on Yelp is The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, with more than 3,500 reviews and 22,000 photos.

Balboa Park in San Diego, home of the San Diego Zoo, and The Getty Center in Los Angeles, which features an impressive art collection and stunning views, rounded out the top three. 

Yelp’s most searched food 

Burgers, pizza, sushi and tacos are the most searched food items on Yelp, the company says. According to Yelp, here are the most popular spots for each: 

  • Burgers: Morrison Atwater Village (Los Angeles) 8,100+ reviews
  • Pizza: Pequod's Pizza (Chicago) 8,300+ reviews
  • Sushi: Nova Kitchen & Bar (Garden Grove, CA) 6,200+ reviews
  • Tacos: Tacos El Gordo (Las Vegas) 6,200+ reviews

And though it didn’t make the top 20 for most popular, Taste of Texas in Houston earned the title of one of the busiest restaurants on Yelp, with nearly 800,000 diners seated using the Yelp Waitlist.
