Window washer falls to death outside Boston skyscraper

BOSTON - A window washer has tragically died after falling from a skyscraper in Boston, local news outlets have reported.
According to Boston 25 News, the incident occurred Monday morning at a 32-story office tower in the financial district.
The Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office identified the victim as 40-year-old Nicholas Marks of East Weymouth.

"I’ve known him for 18 years," Gerardo Ortiz, a window washer and friend of the victim, said. "We wake up every morning to go to work, and we don’t know what’s going to happen that day."
Video footage shows yellow tape blocking off the area as police and detectives investigated the scene.
"Our deepest sympathies go out to Mr. Marks’s family and friends at this tragic time," Suffolk County District Attorney Kevin Hayden said.
There were no additional details immediately available.

Last year, a veteran window washer died while working inside the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum in Boston.
During a news conference, Suffolk District Attorney Kevin Hayden said the worker was about five to seven stories high when he fell to his death.
According to Boston 25 News, both accidents and fatalities in the window-washing world are relatively rare.
OSHA reported 28 incidents over the last five years — eleven of those resulting in fatalities. However, over this five-year period, window washers spent millions of hours on the job.
