Spa pumps recalled after fires, fatality linked to product overheating

WASHINGTON - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Hong-Kong-based Bestway are recalling the AirJet and HydroJet Spa Pumps out of concerns the product could overheat, causing the plastic housing to ignite and possibly start a fire.
The recall involves about 866,000 units. The model numbers are P05332, P05339, P05711, P05807, P07000, P07001, P05511, P07034, and P07572.
The CSPC said so far, three fires have been reported related to the spa pumps. One involved a January 2024 house fire in Kansas City, Missouri, which killed one person and sparked an additional fire, resulting in significant property damage.

No other injures have been reported relating to the product.
Seven more incidents are also under investigation, possibly involved in the spa pumps.
The CSPC is advising consumers to immediately stop using the spa pumps and contact Bestway to receive a free replacement or a refund of $100 for AirJet spa pumps or $189 for HydroJet spa pumps.
The pumps may be sold separately or in a package with an inflatable spa liner in different colors, styles, and inflatable spa sizes.
Inflatable spa liners have been packaged with the pumps and sold under the brand names SaluSpa, Coleman, and Hydro-Force, which are printed on the side of the liner.
Several retailers have sold the spa pumps, including Bestway USA, Amazon, Costco, Walmart, Sam’s Club, QVC, RuralKing and Spreetail and at other stores nationwide from May 2021 through May 2024 for between $400 and $790.
