Getting more privacy policy updates in your email? Here's why
If you are scrolling through your phone or computer reading emails and there are a lot of privacy policy updates, there’s a reason behind this.
While it can get annoying to read and delete these messages, one reason for this is related to Europe’s General Data Protection Regulation, a law setting guidelines for collecting and processing personal information from people, according to Entreprenuer.com.
The law took effect in May 2018 and gives consumers more control over how their data is managed and distributed to companies.
Organizations have to notify consumers about what they do with their data every time the data is breached. These rules apply to any website globally.
Meanwhile, California passed a version of the GDPR in 2020 with the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA), giving consumers more control over the personal information that businesses collect about them.
The law requires businesses to inform consumers about how they collect and use personal information. Businesses can only collect individuals' personal information for specific and legitimate reasons.
