Popular Hatch Baby sound machine power adapters recalled due to ‘shock hazard’

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) officially start car recalls after receiving complaints from consumers.

Hatch Baby is recalling more than 919,000 power adapters sold with Rest 1st Generation sound machines because they pose a shock hazard.

In a notice posted Wednesday on the Consumer Product Safety Commission's website, Hatch said it had received 19 reports of the plastic housing surrounding the AC power adapter coming off, including two reports of consumers who experienced a minor electrical shock.

Hatch Baby noted that the recall is specific to the power adapter only and does not impact the device. Once a replacement power adapter is issued, the Hatch Rest 1st generation device is safe to continue using, the company said.

"The company is pursuing this recall voluntarily as part of its commitment to consumer safety and incident prevention," Hatch said, adding that the company is no longer sourcing power adapters from Jiangsu Chenyang Electron Co., and all current power adapter manufacturing partners have exceeded industry safety standards.

The power adapters have model number CYAP05 050100U. The adapters have a white rectangular plastic housing that plugs directly into the wall socket. The model number, amps ("1.0A"), "Jiangsu Chenyang Electron Co. LTD", and "Made in China" are printed in black near the prongs on the power adapter.

As part of the recall, Hatch said it will offer a free replacement power cord for any impacted customers.

The product was sold online at Hatch.co, Amazon.com, BuyBuyBaby, Target, Walmart, Nordstrom, Pottery Barn Kids and BestBuy stores nationwide from January 2019 through September 2022.

The CPSC said consumers should immediately stop using the recalled power adapters and contact Hatch for a free replacement power adapter. Consumers should also unplug the cord, cut the cord on the recalled power adapter, take a photo of the adapter showing the model number and the cut cord, upload the photo, and provide their name and mailing address at www.hatch.co/adapterrecall. Hatch is contacting all registered owners directly.
