Millions of Bissell handheld steam cleaners recalled due to potential burn hazard

Multiple models of the Bissell Steam Shot handheld steam cleaners are being recalled over a potential burn hazard when in use. 

About 3.2 million handheld steamers are involved in the recall, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) website. 

So far, Bissell has received 183 reports of hot water or steam escaping the product while in use, and of those 183, 157 have reported suffering from minor burn injuries. 

Which models are involved? 

The models involved in the recall include the model series 39N7 and 2994.

How to get a refund

Consumers who purchased a recalled steam cleaner are asked to contact Bissell to receive either a $60 credit toward an online purchase on the Bissell website or a $40 refund. 

Visit the Bissell support website and fill out the form at the bottom of the website, here, to start your recall request. 

Where were the steam cleaners sold? 

The impacted products were sold in Target, Walmart, and other department and home goods stores across the United States and Canada. 

They were also sold on Bissell’s website, as well as Amazon, HSN and others, according to CPSC. 

The steam cleaners were sold between August 2008 and May 2024 for between $35 and $40, and were also sold in two-packs for $70.
