A Kentucky officer is being hailed a hero after saving a toddler from drowning at a birthday party.

The London Police Department said Sgt. Troy Truett "demonstrated exceptional bravery and skill" when he administered CPR to a 2-year-old boy.

The boy had jumped into a pool without his life jacket and started to drown.

His mother pulled him out of the water, but the boy was "blue, unresponsive, and without a pulse."

Authorities said Truett cleared the area, rushed to the child's aid and started life-saving procedures.

After several chest compressions and a couple of rescue breaths, the toddler regained consciousness and began to breathe again.

"Sgt. Truett's selfless act of heroism deserves recognition and gratitude from both his local community and society at large," the department said in a Facebook post. "His dedication to public safety and his quick thinking in the face of a life-threatening situation serve as an inspiration to us all."

As a result, Truett will receive the Life Saving Award and Medal for his actions.
