Johnsonville cheddar bratwurst recall: What to know

Johnsonville is recalling several thousand pounds of meat over a contamination concern. 

Here’s what the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service has said about the recall:

Recalled items:

Johnsonville is recalling some cheddar bratwurst packages that include five pieces of sausage and the package code B9FOD. 

The product has establishment number "Est. 1647" on the front of the label.

By the numbers:

Approximately 22,672 lbs. of the product is included in the recall. 

Reason for recall:

The product may be contaminated with foreign material, specifically hard plastic, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service. 

Two consumers complained and reported hard plastic material was found in the bratwurst. 

No injuries have been reported. 

Sold at:

These items were shipped to retail locations in Georgia, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, Tennessee, Virginia and Wisconsin.

What they're saying:

Authorities are concerned the product may be in consumers’ freezers. If you’ve bought the affected package, you’re urged not to eat it. 

What you can do:

These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.
