Here's how much PTO workers say they ideally want

Time off from work is a fantastic way for workers to recharge with a break from work.
However, most employees don’t use a lot of the vacation days they have accrued through paid time off (PTO) during the year even though they won’t concede they need the downtime.
In a new survey from Talker Research, Americans said that they need a vacation every 110 days which equates to three vacations a year.

But 66% of workers admitted that they are willing to buy more PTO if it were an option with respondents saying they would spend $187 on one day of paid time off.
The survey noted that approximately 18% of employees with access to PTO said they always use what they have earned, while 20% said they used all their PTO in 2023 and other respondents with PTO commented that they had more than five days of PTO left that they didn’t use or were able to roll over into the next year.
Meanwhile, workers (39%) with PTO used less than 40% of their time off particularly for rest and relaxation.

Separately, 79% of Americans said they feel burned out and when asked by researchers what has led to their fatigue, financial struggles (40%), tiredness (37%), and mental health (34%) were the top reasons listed.
Workers shared in the poll that when they feel burned out, they are more susceptible to making mistakes at work (41%), they will rely on too much caffeine at work (36%) and are more likely to be grumpy with their colleagues (29%).
Talker Research gathered data for their findings from an online survey of 2,000 Americans conducted between Oct. 25-30, 2024.
