House Republicans release impeachment report on Biden alleging abuse of power

House Republicans released an impeachment inquiry report on President Joe Biden, accusing him of abuse of power and obstruction of justice related to the business dealings of his son Hunter Biden and family associates.
GOP lawmakers released the nearly 300-page report alleging the Biden family traded on its "brand" in business ventures in "corrupt" ways that rise to the level of impeachment, the Associated Press reported.
The report was released on Monday, hours before the opening day of the Democratic National Convention.

Republicans' focus in the report centers on years when the Biden family struggled following the 2015 death of the president’s oldest son Beau, and Biden refusing to run for president in 2016. The report also accuses the president of obstructing justice in the probe involving the Justice Department’s handling of the investigation into Hunter Biden.
House Republicans claim the Biden family and its associates received $27 million in business payments from partners or clients in Russia, China, and other countries, and allege an extra $8 million in loans, including from a Hollywood attorney.

The AP reported House Republicans claim in the report a practice by Hunter Biden and his associates to solicit foreign business deals using the family’s connection to power in Washington, D.C. Hunter Biden said he did not involve his father in his business during a deposition to House investigators.
According to the AP, House Republicans have not received support within their party to impeach the president, and removal by the Senate seems unlikely.
The impeachment inquiry has been a hallmark of House Republicans efforts, started by former Speaker Kevin McCarthy before he was removed from leadership and approved last year under new Speaker Mike Johnson.
Republicans are probing several parts of the Biden family finances dating back to 2009 when Biden served as vice president to Barack Obama.
But the report shows no evidence that Biden had any involvement in his son’s investigation, which was launched under former President Donald Trump’s administration.
According to the AP, the report includes details of the involvement of Joe Biden’s brother, James, in the various family businesses.
Republicans focused on payments they assert show the president benefited from his brother’s work. The GOP highlights a $200,000 personal check from James Biden to Joe Biden on the same day in 2018 that James Biden received an equal amount from a healthcare company.
The White House has dismissed the House impeachment inquiry, urging House Republicans to "move on."
