Daniel Day-Lewis ends acting retirement for film directed by his son

Seven years after retiring from acting, Daniel Day-Lewis is set to appear in a feature film being directed by his son.
His son, Ronan Day-Lewis, will make his directorial debut for a movie called "Anemone," according to Focus Features. The film will also star Sean Bean, Samantha Morton, Samuel Bottomley and Safia Oakley-Green, the film production and distribution company said.
Daniel Day-Lewis and Ronan Day-Lewis co-wrote the screenplay, which "explores the intricate relationships between fathers, sons and brothers, and the dynamics of familial bonds."
This will be Daniel Day-Lewis’ first acting role since "Phantom Thread" in 2017.
"We could not be more excited to partner with a brilliant visual artist in Ronan Day-Lewis on his first feature film alongside Daniel Day-Lewis as his creative collaborator," Focus Features Chairman Peter Kujawski said in a statement. "They have written a truly exceptional script, and we look forward to bringing their shared vision to audiences alongside the team at Plan B."
Daniel Day-Lewis abruptly quit acting in 2017 without giving a specific reason.
"Daniel Day-Lewis will no longer be working as an actor," a rep for the actor told FOX News at the time. "He is immensely grateful to all of his collaborators and audiences over the many years."
"This is a private decision and neither he nor his representatives will make any further comment on this subject," the rep added.

His acting career has spanned over four decades. He won Oscars for best actor for his leading roles in Steven Spielberg’s 2012 film "Lincoln," "My Left Foot" and "There Will Be Blood."
He is the only performer to date with three Best Actor Academy Awards.
